DC Main Streets is a comprehensive program that promotes the revitalization of business corridors in the District of Columbia. Created in 2002 through the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Main Streets serves as the citywide coordinating program that provides services and funding for the 27 Main Streets across the District of Columbia. Main Streets’ mission is to support traditional retail corridors in the District.

Main Street programs revitalize communities by retaining and recruiting businesses, improving commercial properties and streetscapes, and attracting consumers.

Since the DC Main Streets Program was created, over 600 businesses and 7,500 jobs have been created, and over $350 million has been invested in public improvements.

Our mission is to work to strengthen the local business economy by supporting and promoting local, small businesses, increasing the corridor’s vitality, improving the streetscape, and creating a distinct sense of place for Glover Park.

GPMS funds streetscape projects like improving facades, helping businesses upgrade their signage and facilities, promoting businesses, and hosting events.

During the COVID crisis, we reallocated our funds to give direct and technical assistance to businesses in need.  We helped businesses pivot during the crisis, underwrote their costs, paid for technology and services, and gave out direct aid.  Additionally, we have been acting as a go between for small businesses working to recover and the city.

Main Street programs have taken on a broader remit in the community.  We are here to support the businesses however they need.

The Glover Park business corridor stretches along Wisconsin Ave. and 37th St., NW from just above Calvert St. at the north, to Whitehaven at the south.

GPMS supports local, small businesses in a wide variety of ways.  Annually, we offer grant programs where businesses can apply to improve their facades and storefronts, and offer technical assistance.

We can preform health checks, find certified businesses to perform work, help with promotions, social media, even locate a consultant to advance your business.  We help matchmake opportunities for growth, work to fill vacancies, and assist businesses in need of funding.  We also assist businesses in navigating the regulatory structure of city agencies.
